Poem: Reacquaintance
I made my space.
I put things in a drawer
In a cabinet
Made especially for me.
I shut the drawer
Closed the lid.
Tucked away, protected
The stuff lay patiently
Untouched
Unused
Unknown
Even to she who put it there.
Resting in place,
Season to season
Their surfaces held on to captured moments
That fled all too quickly
The here, the now, the plans,
The hopes, the dreams.
The handles on the drawer broke
The hardware on the cabinet corroded
Ignored
Who was the person who closed the drawer,
Shut the lid
Does part of her still live inside?
